Tightrope walking ape shows off at Monkeyland, South Africa

Meet the ape who really loves to show off.

Siam the gibbon only arrived at Monkeyland in South Africa in the last year but is already the primate sanctuary?s star attraction.

The eight-year-old?s keen sense of adventure is on display as he races across a rope suspended 60ft in the air like an experienced tightrope walker.

Instead of swinging from the branches or strolling across the bridge?s footpath, the tailless animal goes for a much more unorthodox approach.

With his long arms waving from side to side in the air, the confident ape appears undeterred ? despite a few tumbles along the way.

?Gibbons travel through the forest by suspending themselves below the branches using their long arms and strong shoulder muscles,? explains the Monkeyland website.

?By making a mental map of the forest, planning each grip several steps in advance, Gibbons can reach incredible speeds and leap as far as 10 metres in one go.

?You have to be pretty quick to see [them] in full swing!?

It seems Siam is not your average ape, however, with his loveable antics racking up more thousands of hits on YouTube.
