Sony agrees to pay ?250,000 fine for PlayStation Network breach

Sony has accepted a fine from UK regulators following months of fighting its penalty for allowing the personal details of millions of customers to be exposed by hackers.

The Japanese technology giant said it has dropped an appeal over a ?250,000 fine levied by the UK Information Commissioner?s Office (ICO) at the start of this year.

Sony received the penalty after it emerged in 2011 that its PlayStation Network had been breached in one of the largest online security break-ins in history.

Customer details such as names, passwords, e-mail addresses, postal addresses and dates of birth were obtained by hackers.
