2 State College men charged with drugs after St. Thomas Township stop

ST. THOMAS TOWNSHIP - Two State College men are facing charges after they were allegedly found with marijuana and a gun on them during a traffic stop in St. Thomas Township.

Stephen Angelo Bardine, 22, of 1420 E. Park Hill Ave., and Patrick Kevin Cheesebrough, 20, of 511 Fairway Road, are scheduled for preliminary hearings on Tuesday in Franklin County Central Court.

Bardine has been charged with manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, intentional possession of a controlled substance, carrying a firearm without a license, resisting arrest and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cheesebrough has been charged with manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, intentional possession of a controlled substance, use or possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence.

Pennsylvania State Police troopers pulled over the black Honda Civic that Bardine and Cheesebrough were driving at 2:15 a.m. Monday after they noticed the vehicle failing to stay in the proper lane more than once while going west on Lincoln Way West near St. Thomas-Edenville Road, according to the police affidavit.

The driver, later identified as Bardine, pulled over and the passenger, later identified as Cheesebrough, got out of the vehicle and began to run away, police said.

A brief foot pursuit ensued and Cheesebrough was apprehended near 6770 Lincoln

Way West, police said. Troopers immediately noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from his backpack and duffle bag.

A search of Cheesebrough allegedly revealed a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana, police said. While being transported back, he allegedly stated that there were "a couple of felonies in those bags: drugs and a gun."

During this time, another trooped stayed with Bardine at the vehicle and immediately noticed a strong odor of marijuana, police said. When asked where the marijuana was, Bardine allegedly reached into the center console and produced a plastic bag of suspected marijuana, a glass smoking device and a grinder.

A test of both small plastic bags came back positive for marijuana, police said. A search warrant was obtained for the backpack and duffle bag, which revealed more than four pounds of suspected marijuana, unidentified white pills of a suspected controlled substance and various paraphernalia, such as packaging materials and smoking devices.

According to court records, Bardine was charged with multiple drug and DUI-related charges in Centre County in 2010, including five counts of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance.

He was also charged with four counts of possession of marijuana, four counts of DUI, two counts of use or possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of driving the wrong way and one count of intentional possession of a controlled substance, the records state.

Cheesebrough was charged in Centre County in 2011 with three counts each of simple assault and harassment as well as DUI, according to court records.
