OAKLAND, Calif. ? Police arrested an Oakland student, teacher and school counselor after finding a real gun among props that were being used to shoot a video in a public park about the dangers of gun violence.
Oakland police said the group from the United for Success Academy middle school brought two replica weapons and the real gun to a public park on Saturday, alarming other people in the area.
The student is in juvenile hall on gun charges, and the teacher and counselor were arrested and released for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. They are now on administrative leave.
Oakland Schools spokesman Troy Flint says the teacher and counselor showed a severe lapse in judgment. He said they were trying to create a film to illustrate the harms of violence.
