UM alumni to host art evening
ROCKLAND, Maine ? University of Maine Mid Coast Alumni will host ?A Maine Art Evening? at the Eric Hopkins Gallery 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 28 for UMaine alumni. This is the first gathering of midcoast alumni for this year.
The evening will feature short talks by artist Eric Hopkins, University of Maine Museum of Art director George Kinghorn, and chair of the UMaine Department of Art Susan Groce.
The alumni group has provided nine book scholarships to coastal UMaine students in the last three years from money raised at alumni gatherings.

RSU 13 graduates 25 adult education students
ROCKLAND, Maine ? RSU 13 hosted its 2011 Adult Education graduation on June 6. ?The program graduated 25 adults who earned their high school diploma or GED.
Graduates included: Payton Bickford, Felicity Butler, Abel Delgado, Joel Gerhmann, Cathie Harrington, Chloe Jonasson, Jake Johnson, Jocelin Murphy, Lisa Pinkham, Angelia Sawyer, Amber Esther Stover, Lauren Witham, Philip Witham and Miranda Wotton-Thayer.
Poet reading scheduled for Camden
CAMDEN, Maine ? The Camden Public Library will host ?Three Poets Welcome Summer? on the first day of summer, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 21. Poets Gayle Portnow, Carol Bachofner and Wendy Rapaport will read. ?All are welcome.
Cars on display at Owls Head show
OWLS HEAD, Maine ? The Owls Head Transportation Museum will celebrate America?s passion for cool cars with its Hot Rods, Customs, Muscle Cars and Antique Aeroplane Show on Saturday and Sunday, June 18-19. Gates open at 9:30 am.
Owners of pre-1991 vehicles, of any make or model, are always welcome to exhibit at this and all other museum events, free.
The museum will also set aside an area for children to exhibit their bicycles, tricycles, scooters and other wheels.
The museum will give free rides in Ford Model Ts. An antique aeroplane shows start at 9:30 a.m., weather permitting.

Midcoast sustainability projects awarded agriculture grants
ROCKLAND, Maine ? Several local islands won agriculture grants through the Island Institute to support sustainability in the communities. Grants up to $10,000 were given to: Islesboro Central School stipend for summer-market management; Cheryl Gaudiana-Erskine, of Islesboro, for a new greenhouse; Monhegan for support the Island Farm Project with a stipend for leadership and purchase of supplies; Vinalhaven?s Free-range Poultry Project for chicken-coop upgrades; Vinalhaven Middle School for a raised bed project.

Turkey dinner on tap for Father?s Day
EAST MACIAS, Maine ? The Jacksonville Grange will be holding a Father?s Day turkey dinner from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 19, at the Grange Hall on Douglas Street in East Machias. The meal includes turkey, potatoes, rolls and pies. The meal price is $7 for adults and $4 children under 12. The meal proceeds benefit many projects in the area. Root cellar talk scheduled for Blue Hill
BLUE HILL, Maine ? Local Stock Food Co-op and the Jonathan Fisher House will present a talk by local orchardists Tim Seabrook and Leslie Cummins from Brooklin?s 5 Star Nursery from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at Jonathan Fisher House on Mines Road in Blue Hill. Tim and Leslie are restoring Pastor Fisher?s orchard to one likely planted during his lifetime. In her research, Leslie has spent countless hours with Fisher?s diaries including his numerous references to his root cellar. What better spot for the first of Local Stock?s summer series of hands-on demonstrations? One of Fisher?s paintings, ?Late Harvest,? is on loan from the Farnsworth to add to the event?s flavor.
