HILVERSUM, Netherlands (AP) -Vandals and heavy rain have held up play on the opening day of the European Tour's KLM Open.

Play was initially delayed for 45 minutes after vandals dug up parts of four greens at the Hilversum Club. Later, heavy rainfall forced another suspension by causing large puddles on greens.

When play was halted early Thursday afternoon, the English pair of Robert Dinwiddie and Simon Dyson along with Marcel Siem of Germany held the joint lead at 4 under.

Defending champion Martin Kaymer struggled to 3 over after 15 holes when rain forced players off the course.

Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood have not yet started their rounds.

Rain also forced the closure of the public car park, meaning spectators could only arrive by public transport.
