Mardi Gras parades have rolled down streets throughout the state for a few weeks. Tonight, however, one local city is hosting its very first parade to honor someone loved by many in the parish.
The Krewe of Comogo is celebrating a lost friend, sister and daughter to many in Plaquemine. As the last finishing touches went up Monday morning on floats and decorations, the family of Brenda Comeaux had a constant reminder about why their parade has finally come together.

"For the last year and a half we have been planning this parade, it?s finally coming to where we can do it," says Krewe of Comongo?s, Edward Comeaux.

Comeaux has been waiting for this day for years. It all began after his sister, Brenda, passed away in 2009.

"She was very gifted at designing hats and she loved Mardi Gras and she loved this time of year she would really like to be here."

After gaining support from the city, local businesses and local officials, Brenda?s dream of a nighttime parade in her hometown was actually coming together.

"We had to get all the floats lined up, we rented all the floats from the guy in New Orleans," says Comeaux.

Even though the weather is not ideal, nothing will stop the Krewe of Comogo from making this parade a success.

"I think it's gong to be very big and were trying to get the surrounding areas involved also, so eventually we will have a huge nighttime parade for years to come," says Brenda?s nephew, Mark Comeaux.

Starting a tradition the people of Plaquemine will celebrate while they remember a loved one and friend.

"We wanted this to be very special in memory of her," noted Mark Comeaux.

The parade begins at 7:00 p.m. in Plaquemine and will follow up with a big celebration and ball.
