On Your Next Orlando Vacation ? Try Something ?Off the Beaten Path?

Lake Eola overlooking Downtown Orlando

There is so much more to an Orlando vacation than just Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Legoland, SeaWorld and Kennedy Space Center, as a matter of fact, most residents rarely set foot in a theme park much less anywhere near the tourism areas. However, I would like to give you a few recommendations ?Off the Beaten Path? areas that most vacationers miss?

Downtown Orlando

The city center of Central Florida Orlando, the downtown area is full of unique modern skyscrapers, and is also rich in history. Checking out all of their local artists and entertainment is certainly worth visiting. Small typical places like Sak Comedy Club is one of the many local hot spots worth checking out. Always make sure to take a walk along Lake Eola Park, a gorgeous area of downtown where you will see the well known Lake Eola Fountain ? the perfect picture spot! You will also find the Walt Disney Amphitheater and many unique shops, sidewalk cafesand restaurants along Thornton Park. At Heritage Square, you will find the historic Orange County Regional History Center and the impressive Orlando Public Library. Nearby is Wall Street Plaza, believe it or not this is a big nightlife area and a very popular place to watch Orlando Magic games during the NBA season. The Orlando Magic games are really great entertainment, not only for the game, but for the full

Bob Carr Performing Arts Center

experience surrounding it in the gorgeous new Amway Center. Also, Downtown Orlando you will find Orlando Avenue which will bring you to Orlando City Hall. Don?t forget to take a peek in to the luxurious Grand Bohemian Hotel. This hotel is the perfect place to go for a fine dining experience at The Boheme restaurant or just stop by for a coffee at Starbucks ? also located inside the Hotel. Finally, I would definitely recommend checking out the latest performance at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center.

Orlando?s Downtown area is very accessible from both I-4 and the toll road 408. There is even a free bus system within the downtown area.

Check out USA Vacation Homes and Spa for more ideas and things to do. As always, for the most luxurious Orlando vacation homes stay with USA Vacation Homes and Spa ? the leader in luxurious Orlando vacation homes?See you in Orlando!

How Search, Social Media and Content Accelerate Your Business ...

social media book reviewsYour customers get 99% of their information from search engines, social media referrals, online news sites and targeted content.

If your business is NOT there among the solutions when your customers are looking, you?re lost.

And even if they do find you some other way, you will still lose if you don?t have compelling content to keep them engaged with your brand.

And so you must publish, you must tell stories and you must become interesting to your customers so that they find, like and trust you.

In his book, Accelerate! Move Your Business Forward Through the Convergence of Search, Social & Content Marketing, Arnie Kuenn puts it simply:

?Web users are consumers of content and you need to deliver compelling content that will engage them, and keep them coming back for more.?

This book is about successful digital publishing and consistent content quality. The author explains that if you do it right and strive for quality, you?ll produce content that:

  • Attracts links.
  • Compels people to share it on social media.
  • Meets the real needs of your customers.

Here?s what you need to know about Accelerate! by Arnie Kuenn.

Author?s Purpose

arnie kuenn photo

Arnie Kuenn, author of Accelerate!

Arnie Kuenn wrote this book for website owners (that?s you!) to get you thinking like a publisher.

And he should know something about that, because he self-published this book. Kuenn is sharing not just theory, but experiences from his own success as an online marketer and publisher!

He wants you to have a thorough understanding of:

  • How digital publishing works.
  • How to create the kind of content your customers are looking for.
  • How to ensure that they find it and share it.
  • How all of these things will ultimately strengthen your online presence.

What to Expect

book cover

At 13 chapters (257 pages), Accelerate! is a meaty book. It?s a very analytical and logical guide to Internet marketing. If you?re not an experienced Internet marketer, this book will give you the confidence you need to execute digital publishing from the perspective of content, search and social media.

Even if you?re a veteran Internet marketer, you can expect to get a much firmer grip on these concepts and how each contributes to the publishing process.

You?ll discover that a content strategy is very much like the links in a bicycle chain. These links are:

  • Strategy
  • Research
  • Content creation
  • Promotion
  • Distribution
  • Link-building
  • Measurement

Not only is each link vital to the strength of the whole chain, but also all links must be connected (break one link and the whole things falls apart!).

Highlights

Each of the 13 chapters serves as a powerful brainstorming exercise for your next piece of content. However, there are some key concepts that I feel compelled to highlight.

#1: Target Your Traffic Through Keyword Research

Keywords play a powerful role in a content marketing strategy. They are the basic means of communication between searcher and search engine, representing the searcher?s voice and interest. Here?s how to brainstorm for relevant keywords and phrases:

  • What are the key terms that you identify with your industry?
  • Do your products come in different styles or colors?
  • Do you have model numbers or serial numbers that someone might search for?
  • Would your product or service be categorized differently by region, or even by country? For example, one searcher might search ?auto insurance? and another might search ?car insurance.?
  • Consider your products or services by components. For example, if you sell playground equipment, what are the components of the playground equipment that you sell: swing set, slide, monkey bars, etc.?
  • From your market research, determine what kinds of questions people are asking about your industry. Do these questions give you new insight into how your products are being seen that you hadn?t considered before?

Remember, the main idea in brainstorming for keywords and phrases is to think like a searcher and put yourself in his or her shoes.

#2: Content Must be Maintained to be Successful

Content needs constant maintenance to be successful. You can?t ignore maintenance. Your content represents your brand and your expertise?your ability to meet the needs of your customers. Whether online or offline, the content you publish needs to be kept up to date in order to remain relevant, timely and accurate.

Here are some common content issues that creep up when maintenance is neglected:

  • Old, inaccurate or irrelevant content
  • Broken links within the content
  • Policy changes that may affect content
  • Inconsistency with branding style
  • Inaccurate or missing meta-descriptions

To begin monitoring your existing content assets, you will need to do a content audit, which involves using a simple Excel spreadsheet to take inventory.

In the end you want to keep content that:

  • Is relevant, timely and useful.
  • Meets your organizational goals.
  • Adds value to your customers? experience.

#3: Proper use of Links to Optimize Content

The way that you handle links is a significant part of search engine optimization. The most important thing is to make it clear where a link will take your visitors?don?t surprise them. Using ambiguous or generic words such as ?click here? as anchor text, is a less effective linking strategy than using clear and definitive words.

chain links

Proper use of links means more visibility and success. Image source: iStockPhoto

Here are some link tips:

  • A link?s color should be different from the main text?most people expect it to be blue and underlined, so you might want to keep that in mind as you set up your style sheet.
  • The words that you highlight (anchor text) should be a good clue to the content that you?re linking to. Try not to send your visitor to a page that they?re not expecting.
  • Broken links look sloppy and give the impression that you?ve forgotten about the page. Both users and search engines frown upon broken links.
  • Search engines want to see links in your content, and internal links are the easiest way to accomplish that. Internal links are clues to your website?s relevance.
  • When using internal links, avoid generic anchor text such as ?Want to read more? Click here.? Again, search engines want to see relevance in the anchor text. To ensure relevance, make sure that the anchor text for those links matches the title of the page it links to, whether it?s a page on your site or a page on another website.
  • Above all, links should direct users to a page that is relevant to the content that they are currently engaging. Directing users away from the topic at hand is a surefire way to lose their attention.

#4: Use Social Media to Promote Content?the Right Way

The greatest value of social media is that it?s social. You have the opportunity to engage and interact with potential customers by adding a sense of familiarity and comfort to your brand image.

The Motor Lodge in Prescott, AZ is a great example of a small business doing this on Facebook. They?ve generated a following of about 1,600 fans on their page, and are keeping them engaged with updates about life at the hotel (even though most of their followers aren?t immediately looking to spend the night in Prescott).

Their success comes first from a quality website that demonstrates who they are, is appealing to visitors and is easily navigable.

motor lodge website

The Motor Lodge has a visually attractive website that shows off their brand's personality.

Second, they consistently post interesting content on Facebook, such as stories about their resident cat Shadow, and invitations for fans to ?come to our place for a good shower.? Their updates treat followers as friends and even more importantly, the down-to-earth posts encourage comments and interaction.

Third, their updates aren?t necessarily about them, but rather offer reasons to come to Prescott, AZ. These kinds of updates don?t sound like advertising, but for last-minute getaways, this quaint little town will be on the radar of most of their fans, and they?ll have a reason to stay at the lodge!

You can do this too by building relationships on Facebook so that when you have some content to promote, you have an audience that?s ready to receive it. Take a look:

Motor Lodge fans really love this hip little motel in Prescott, AZ.

Personal Impression

Accelerate! is an exceptional book and now that I?ve read it, I?m a HUGE fan of Arnie Kuenn! If you read it, you?ll see why.

I love that he talks about something often overlooked that is at the very heart of digital publishing: that it?s not just about content marketing and social media. Far from it!

There?s a ton of work that goes on behind the scenes to boost online presence. Things like research, link-building, content curation, content audits, understanding how search engines work, reputation management and other activities which are extremely important parts of the digital publishing process?and they?re all very well explained in this book.

You?ll find tremendous value in this book and some tips in particular; for example, how to send link requests that don?t get deleted, and how to approach bloggers who are out of your league. He even explains how to develop a customized pitch. To say that this is a great book is an understatement. So if you?re doing business online, you absolutely have to read Accelerate!

If Social Media Examiner could give this book a 6-star rating, we would! But there?s no such thing, so a full 5-star rating will have to do!

Reach for the 'Skye' ? a perfect family holiday! | HonieMummy Blog

We were looking for a perfect family holiday that gave us all that we usually expect to fulfil our spontaneous ?needs and this had us reaching for the Skye ? the Isle of Skye!

Holidays for the HonieHouse don?t usually come in simple packages ? they are usually the result of impulsive browsing and combining previous experiences that come from the challenge of entertaining a family with 3 children, of different ages, needs and abilities.

A born traveller with itchy feet that is HonieDaddy, is never deterred by terrain or inconvenience when it comes to our family. Left to his own devices, the kids would be road tripping day and night in the Canadian Rockies (wheelchair included). But HonieMummy takes hold of his ideas and pulls him back a bit, allowing for the consideration of toilet stops and mealtimes to be included, as well as limiting the daily drive (if possible).

Easter usually has us over the Atlantic Pond with lots of very exciting things to see and do. ?So it was something of a challenge for HD to think up a plan that would not only push his buttons, but let me give him free reign on the choice of destination and travel plans that allowed for my sanity while entertaining an almost 13 YO Daughter with raging hormones, almost 12 YO Step-son with Cerebral Palsy and a live wire of a 5 YO Daughter.

As much as I love our holidays in the US and Canada (I really do!), I could do without the having to re-pack for several designated spots that HD intends to see ? which has to be done to minimise the travel time. ?Note to the diary of anyone wanting to do US/Canada ? ?distance is the norm? ? if you want to see great things, you travel great distances to fit them in!!!! So road tripping and staying over at your daily destination is an advantage.

We are blessed with a Volvo XC90 that comes with a boot big enough for a wheelchair, 3 large cases and all of the paraffinalia that comes with children (that need to be wired into an electrically charged product for a reasonable length of time). It?s also very hand for the kind of roads HD likes to roller coaster on. ?The big bonus about the journey up to the Island of Skye is that the journey through the Lake District, Cumbria and then onto the Lowlands and Western Highlands of Scotland make it a picture perfect route to enjoy. Give the kids an iPod, Pad or tablet to play with and you have yourself a Cargument Free Zone!

So cutting to the chase ? when HonieDaddy announced he?d like to return to Scotland this year, ?I was instantly won over with the line ?in a cottage for the whole 2 weeks.?

The Isle of Skye has everything you could want for a family holiday: you are never 5 miles from a beach (that range from sandy, pebbly, rocky, dramatic and even coral ? yes real coral), there are castles (ruins, very complete ones and ones that are still lived in), museums (lots of Celtic history and even a children?s toy one). There are lots of dramatic and easy going walks (wheelchair accessible and HD?s version of by hook or by crook accessibility). Whatever you choice be prepared to be stunned by the skylines, moorlands, mountain views, cliff drops and beach vistas.

Getting onto the island has never been easier as you can still travel by ferry from various locations, but now that there is no toll fee on the Skye Bridge, you can drive on with ease and take in the scenery as you travel there.

For dining out, you could not have landed yourself in a better place ? Skye supplies most of the langoustines, prawns, mussels and other seafood to places you?d least expect ?. think paella in Spain and it is likely to have come from the Sound of Sleat or the Kyle of Lochalsh. I don?t think I?ve ever tasted such good fish and chips as I did in many restaurants and family pubs we visited ? the scampi is definitely not cooked from frozen, nor does it come in a basket. ?If fish is not your choice of pallet ? there are meats such as Aberdeen Angus Steaks, Venison and Highland Lamb. ?One of HD?s favourite lunches was in an Art Cafe run by a lovely English Couple who ran their business from home, showing off their stunning paintings, hand woven rugs and some very nice aromatherapy products and it was totally fresh, ?organic and vegetarian. Thank you Stuart and Maggie for a very welcoming, inspiring and taste sensation of an afternoon.

We stayed in a lovely house?that was big enough to comfortably sleep 6 (not including the cot that was available) and had all the kitchen appliances a family needs for a 2 week stay and plenty of room in and out for the children to play. ?The views were breathtaking, the shores of the Sound of Sleat at the end of the very long croft garden (two fences for children to negotiate, so very safe) and the house was comfortable, clean and the owners were close enough if we needed them (although they gave us complete privacy). The bonus for us is that it was all one level, so no stairs to encounter. ?Thank you Ishbel for your hospitality.

I could talk and talk about the whole 2 weeks, but thought it best to simply leave you with a list of ?must see? places to visit and a selection of photographs to entice you to claim this experience for yourself.

We thought that although the entire island is picture perfect, a huge part of us felt complete in choosing the Sleat Peninsula as our base to stay. Here you will find many of the following locations:

Dunvegan Castle ? accessibility is awkward, but if you are able to negotiate the 15 steps (with help) to the main floor where all of the displays are, you will have an eye-opening, enchanting time whatever your age. ?The gardens are stunning and picture perfect. Photographic highlights are the gardens, coastline and the castle itself.

Skye?s Oldest Bakery ?(over 140 years old) ? is in the town of Dunvegan and serves the tastiest and biggest scones I have ever seen. We made excuses to pass through Dunvegan (over 30 miles from our base in Ferrindonald, Sleat) 3 times! ?We can recommend all of the cakes as well as the Scotch pies and bacon or sausage barmcakes.

It was in the bakery we spotted a picture by Russell Sherwood who told us about all of the many Art Studios of the Skye Art Trails ? we bought the picture! Ellishadder Art Cafe is also a visit worth making and is on the same route as ?..

The Old Man of Storr ? This one was a little bit difficult for us to get right up to with the wheelchair. HD would have done it if he could! But for miles around once you have left the island?s central town of Portree, you can see the Old Man, it?s unusual and almost impossible shape and size inviting you to take a closer look. You can also see this en-route to other locations in the Trotternish area.

Eilean Iarman and Camus Cross Bay boasts a beautiful bay, housing a handful of yachts and fishing boats and a delightful community of skilled residents that offer some great places to visit and eat out. Here you can taste and buy Gaelic whiskies and visit the Wool and Tweed Boutique (with silk and wool mixtures). There are two art studios: Heaven?s Ocean and An Talla Dearg?(the latter are same owners as the Hotel). There is a remote lighthouse on the bay which is private and lived in, but still offers a great photo opportunity.

The Clan Donald Visitor Centre? (the former home of the McDonald Clan)?has some of the most awesome history and exhibits Scotland has to offer within this 20,000 acres estate, including visits to the museum, castle, visitor centre, gardens, children?s play area, various shops and large family restaurant tastefully decorated with all of the clan colours. It is totally accessible for wheelchairs and you could spend a whole day here, discovering new things, walking the gardens, entertaining the children, eating out and taking home some souvenirs to remember your visit by. The Legacy of the Clan Donald Trust is well worth investigating and there are quizzes for the children to take around with them.

A journey we never grew tired of whilst on the Sleat peninsula, was the trip around the loop road that takes you through the village of Ord and the crofting townships of Tokavaig, Tarskavaig, and Stonefield. This meandering journey gives superb views across Loch Eishort to the Cuillins beyond and there are castle ruins and fabulous beaches laden with shell fish in the rock pools. Be mindful of the frequent passing points and the fearless sheep taking a stroll as you drive.

Self improvement Tips That Everyone Should Follow | Never Lose ...

Are you finding it hard to grow and find success in your personal development? Many people think that personal development is something they can?t do, the truth is everyone can help themselves personally develop. What it takes is an open mind, you have to try new things in order to succeed. You might find a few new hints in this article. The advice might be just what you need to take another step forward. Learn more about over 50 dating now,

Some level of contentment is crucial to mental health and self-improvement. While self-help tactics and tips focus on constant striving, there is a bigger picture to consider. You will never achieve holistic health and mental happiness without allowing yourself a bit of enjoyment. Learn to be content with things you cannot change (your family, last year?s earnings, etc.). Once you are satisfied with the permanent things in your life, you are ready to change the things you can control.

Many people find that they can improve their lives by joining a religious group or an important cause. When we belong to a group that is trying to help themselves and other people improve we can find great purpose in our lives. If a person find himself without direction he can try finding a religious group that fits his beliefs and time table.

Be someone that people want to come to for information and ideas. You do not want to always be the one asking questions. This will provide you room to ask questions when you have them. A two way relationship with peers is better than having to go down a one way street.

The best way you can help yourself is to spend more time relaxing. Many times, people get depression or anxiety because they are overwhelmed. By taking even one hour out of your day to just relax, read a book or watch TV, your mind is more stable to handle important matters.

Learn proper concentration techniques and utilize daily. Concentration is key to self-improvement and personal development, helping you to maintain in tune with those things in your life that are more important. With concentration, you are able to soak up all that you should be focusing on from day to day.

Your self confidence during personal development periods will benefit from a harmonious relationship to your core self. If you?re in tune with your mind, body, and soul, you?ll find it easier to defend yourself against challenges to your core beliefs and values. This helps you strengthen the impact of your beliefs, and your confidence in them.

Experience life, but do not push your body beyond its limits or put yourself in danger of being seriously injured. There are many things in life that many of us would have liked to do at one point or another and want to do before we die. Do not take too big of risks because you are not going to heal the way you once would have.

Personal development, like so many other things, truly must come from within. When you decide that you want to improve yourself you should write down a list of all of the things that you want to make better. It will not be possible to do all of these at the same time, however.

As you grow older you will gain understanding about yourself. Once you have insight into your behaviors, you will be able to know why you do what you do, and hopefully will be able to change anything that you do not like.

A personal development plan needs to be a daily plan of action. Divide your plan for success into things that need to be worked on each and every day, so that each night when you go to sleep you are in a better position than when you woke up that morning.

A great tip for personal development is to find the best in yourself before trying to be true to yourself. If you are not sure who you are, there is no way you can be true to yourself. Once you figure yourself out, then you can be true to yourself.

A great tip that can help you with your personal development goals is to check out the library. The library is filled to the brim with informational books that can help you. You?ll be amazed at how many books they have that can offer insight into the different areas of your life.

Personal development also means being thankful for what you do have. Be gracious for the wonderful things in your life, and use this knowledge to propel yourself to your goals. The support systems you already have in place offer several venues to continue to work on your self-confidence.

These tips should help you feel more comfortable if you choose to follow them. Perhaps not all these tips would work in your particular situation. If you cannot resolve your problem yourself or have a hard time defining what the issue is, you should probably go see a professional before it gets worse. 94% Marley

All Critics (82) | Top Critics (23) | Fresh (76) | Rotten (5)

Sprinkled with riffs, concert footage and home videos, the family-authorized documentary does what the artist usually did: When in doubt, return to the beat.

Macdonald supplies some interesting and novel details about the musician's life and art, though the movie's narrative arc and documentary methods are totally predictable.

Bob Marley wrote the same song about 8,000 times, and the documentary "Marley" makes sure to include each version.

This is a life story worth telling, and "Marley" does it much justice. Marley may or may not have been perfect, but he was certainly fascinating.

It's hard to imagine audiences who don't know much about the man sticking around for more than a few minutes of this. And they're the ones who need to know about him most of all.

The movie has enormous force - because it's about a genius, yes, but even more so because of the intelligence, passion and wit of the people who knew Marley.

Bob Marley fanatics are going to treat this film like the Holy Bible.

Will get you up to speed regarding all things Marley.

For a movie this long, it's too bad there isn't more footage of Marley in performance, joyously bringing music to the world.

...likely as close as we'll ever come to a definitive film biography of this gnomic figure.

Macdonald effectively lets the talking heads and the music explain the longevity of Marley's appeal.

Recounts a short life that seemed to straddle worlds and eras, and perhaps the definitive portrait will never be filmed or written. Until it is, though, there's always the music.

A truly human portrait of an extraordinary life.

Marley is a terrific documentary. It goes beyond one figure, and captures the essence of life itself. The film is as infectious and spiritual as one of his songs.

Good documentaries make us want to know more about their subject. But great ones like Marley don't need to.

It's certainly comprehensive, even if -- at two and a half hours long -- not exactly concise.

If you'd asked me a month ago how Marley had died, I might have cluelessly suggested a drug overdose.

Chronicles the life and times of the first musical superstar from the third world to gain a global audience, with the reggae singer's posthumous Legend album selling some 25 million copies.

In the end, it's just good, comprehensive storytelling, a film that justifies the legend rather than hypes it.

Gradually, the dreadlocks, the music and the cloud of ganja smoke come together to form as recognisable an image as that of the equally short-lived Che Guevara.

The film never shows us Marley in a complete performance. It's hard to understand the magic of a man whose most awesome moments are reduced to edited snippets.

It smartly captures his dynamic personality both through the words of those who knew him, and more importantly, through his enduring music.

Marley finally gives the world an authoritative, nonhagiographic survey of Marley's life.

Taking care of your skin might be the most important thing you do all summer.

Skin cancer is now an epidemic with a record 2 million cases diagnosed each year in the U.S., according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. One in five Americans will develop skin cancers over the course of their lives, which means it?s more important than ever to protect yourself from the sun.

Since May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, actress Gabrielle Union, who is partnering with Neutrogena on their Choose Skin Health campaign, and Dr. Doris Day, a clinical assistant professor of dermatology at New York University, visited ?Good Morning America? Wednesday with the latest information on safe sun behavior and new technology that can help detect skin cancer faster than ever before.

For more information on safe sun habits and Neutrogena?s healthy skin care initiative, go to chooseskinhealth.com.

Spotting the Signs of Skin Cancer

No matter what your skin color, you have to check your skin regularly for signs of skin cancer. The first place to check is any area that is sun-exposed: your face, neck, ears, hands and your back and legs if you?re at the beach. Don?t forget your arm if you hang it out the window while you?re driving. Balding men should check their scalps ? even the skin exposed by the part in your hair.

The most common skin cancers are squamous cell and basal cell carcinomas. When caught early and treated, they rarely cause further problems. They are not always easy to detect, but if you have any kind of abnormality on your skin that doesn?t go away within two weeks to a month, you should go to the doctor to get it checked.

The more serious form of skin cancer is melanoma. Melanomas are often found on skin that is newly exposed to the sun like the backs of men, and on the backs or legs of women, now in the sun because of warm weather clothes.

To determine if an unusual mole is actually melanoma or any other skin cancer, you can follow the A-B-C-D-E guideline developed by the American Academy of Dermatology:

A is for asymmetrical shape. Look for moles with irregular shapes.

B is for irregular border, meaning that the mole has indentations and cauliflower-like borders.

C is for changes in color. If the mole is more than one color or is uneven in its shading.

D is for diameter. Look for new growth in a mole larger than about 1/4 inch ? think a pencil eraser.

E is for evolving. Look for changes over time, such as moles that grow in size or that change color or shape, or if they itch or bleed.

Day demoed MelaFind, a brand-new, FDA approved, non-invasive tool which scans the skin and can see below the skin?s surface to evaluate brown spots, birth marks and moles for melanoma.

Safe Sun Behavior

Your first line of defense against skin cancer is to apply sunscreen to all exposed skin. Don?t forget to put it on at least a half hour before going out in the sun, and reapply it every two hours ? even more frequently if you?ve been sweating or swimming.

If you can avoid being in the sun from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. when rays are strongest, you?ll also cut back on your risk.

Qualcomm gets on the Band 41 bandwagon, pledges support for Clearwire's upcoming LTE TDD network

wireless cell tower

Not exactly groundbreaking news here -- Clearwire's impending LTE TDD network is happening, regardless -- but it's always good to have the weight of a mainstay like Qualcomm behind you. Particularly when you're pushing uphill, into the wind, against far more established 4G networks from AT&T and Verizon Wireless. Qually has announced that it'll soon add support for the aforesaid waves, including Clearwire in its list of partners ready to ingest those multi-mode LTE chipsets that are so vital to our future enjoyment. The key here is support for 3GPP's Band 41 (B41) radio frequency, and we're told that the outfit plans to make chipsets supporting that band available "later this year." You're cool to wait, right?

April brings HTC sales boost

Android Central

Last month brought an improvement in monthly sales figures for HTC, according to reports from Reuters?. Figures released by HTC this morning put consolidated sales at NT$31.03 billion ($1.06 billion) -- an improvement on the previous month's NT$30.879 billion, though still some 20 percent lower than April 2011's figure of NT$38.73 billion. The manufacturer saw falling revenues in the face of increased competition during Q4 2011 and Q1 2012, so the uptick in sales will come as welcome news.

The rise in sales can be attributed to the launch of the much-praised HTC One series in Europe and Asia. As the One series sees broader availability in North America over the next month, HTC will be hoping its numbers will be further buoyed.

Chain-Link Confidentiality: A HIPAA-Like Approach To Online Privacy

chain_link_linksAs we put more of our private information online and entrust it to web services, privacy breaches become almost inevitable. One major problem with online privacy is that there is really no?enforceable?chain of confidentiality. So when a third-party service makes your information available to another party, things can get complicated. A new paper by Samford University law professor Woodrow Harzog argues that traditional privacy laws aren't the best ways to protect private information online. Instead, he suggests an approach that more like the U.S. HIPAA rules?that currently govern how private health information can be shared between your health provider and third parties. The system he proposes would be based on established principles in?confidentiality?and contract law.

EL James on Fifty Shades of Grey Research: Brutal!

It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it, and Fifty Shades of Grey author EL James said she did exhaustive "research" for the best-selling erotic novel in which many of her own sexual fantasies actually appear on paper.

"It was a very considered study," James joked the explicit sex in her books during the latest stop on her book tour. "My husband still rolls his eyes and says 'God, what do we gotta do now?' He was very cooperative."

50 Shades of Grey Cover

"Fundamentally for me it's still a love story," she notes. "I think women love to read love stories. People concentrating on the sex ... I can say over and over again I cannot own people's reaction to this story."

"If they want to concentrate on the sex ... it's their issue, not my issue.

As for the banter between Christian and Anastasia Steele? "That's actually how I write my emails … I am a terrible flirt. I have a lot of fun with those."

With a multi-million dollar book deal and now a Fifty Shades of Grey movie in the works, James won't spill on who should play Christian Grey on film.

"I'm so not telling you," she teased. "It's really, really early days in the film process. I'm keeping my mouth shut because I will get into trouble."

Who can you see in the lead roles? Vote in our polls below!

Steam's latest beta client enables remote installation of games, with emphasis on 'beta'

Steam's latest beta client enables remote installation of games, with emphasis on 'beta'

Considering it's supposed to be a democratic free-for-all, Steam has been running a tight ship lately. We've already seen a video of a forthcoming native client for Linux, and now there's a new beta client for Windows and Mac that also brings something different: remote game management. This can save you time by letting you trigger the download and installation of a title to your home computer while you're still in the office or on the move, via any web browser. That said, this type of thing was already possible using remote desktop apps, and so far the community response to the buggy beta has been decidedly mixed -- so make sure you read up on Valve's forum (at the source link) before you expect to find your slippers, Pinot Grigio and Sniper Elite V2 all lined-up and waiting when you get home.
